What do I all need to do for the new ELDT?
The ELDT regulations set the minimum Federal requirements for training that entry-level drivers must complete before being permitted to take certain commercial driver’s license (CDL) skills or knowledge tests on or after February 7, 2022. You will need to take a theory class and a training assessment if you are obtaining a Class A CDL or Class B CDL for the first time, upgrading an existing Class B CDL to a Class A CDL and/or obtaining a school bus (S), passenger (P), or hazardous materials (H) endorsement for the first time. After you receive your CLP (Permit) a training assessment is required for all listed above with the exception of hazardous materials. A training assessment is not required for hazardous materials, only a theory class.

Who is considered an entry-level driver?
Individuals applying to:

  • Obtain a Class A CDL or Class B CDL for the first time;
  • Upgrade an existing Class B CDL to a Class A CDL;
  • Obtain a school bus (S), passenger (P), or hazardous materials (H) endorsement for the first time.

The ELDT requirements apply to individuals who obtain a commercial learner’s permit (CLP) on or after February 7, 2022.
The ELDT regulations are not retroactive; individuals who were issued a CDL or an S, P, or H endorsement prior to February 7, 2022 are not required to complete training for the respective CDL or endorsement.

What happens if I don’t pass my training assessment, do I have to pay again?
You will get two chances during the allotted training assessment time, if you do not pass during the allotted time, you will need to reschedule for a later date and yes you will need to pay again for the training assessment.

What happens if I don’t pass my online theory class, do I have to pay again?
You will get two chances to pass each chapter of your online theory course, if you do not receive an 80% or higher after your second chance, you will need to retake the online theory course and yes you will need to pay again for the online theory course.

Is there a certain score I need to pass?
All theory and training assessments must be passed with 80% or greater to be successful.

What is my first step?
If you do not have your Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) go to the DMV and take the general knowledge and if needed the combination and air brake written tests. Then get scheduled in a theory class.

What type of truck will I be tested?
All of WITCC’s vehicles are 10-speed manual transmissions and WITCC trailers are 48 to 53 foot. You can make arrangements to supply your own vehicle for the training assessment and/or test.
